If an alcohol detox is needed for yourself or a loved one, it is important to get them the right help that they deserve. An inpatient alcohol detox isn’t always the answer for everyone, it may simply not be an option that is affordable. To others, spending a few weeks in a residential setting may not be feasible as some people need to continue to work or care for children. If this is the case, ruling out an alcohol detox completely isn’t the answer as there are more treatment options than ever before. With individually assessed programmes, a home alcohol detox may be the right option. It is dangerous to try and detox at home alone without professional help and the correct medication as unsafe withdrawal from alcohol can result in seizures and fits.
When considering an alcohol home detox, you would firstly undergo a telephone assessment with our friendly admissions team. This initial assessment is done to check that a home detox is both a safe option, and the right option of treatment for you.
Once this assessment has been completed, you will be assigned a prescribing doctor or nurse who will clinically oversee the whole of your home detox. Here at Pierpoint we understand that no two detox cases are the same so each of our home detox programmes are individually assessed and tailored to meet each of our clients’ needs. This ensures the upmost comfort and safety whilst detoxing. The prescriber will arrange an appointment with you to come and do a further assessment at home, providing our criteria is met in this second assessment, they will prescribe on the same day to start the alcohol home detox. They will advise you when to commence the medication and what doses to take, it is useful to have someone at home who can help administer this medication to you on a daily basis. The medication that is most commonly used in an alcohol detox is Librium, however if the assessment indicates this isn’t appropriate prescriber will use alternative medication.
Throughout and after your alcohol home detox, there will be levels of support for you to choose from. We can provide daily motivation by telephone support calls throughout the detox, or counselling support calls throughout and for a period of time after the home detox. If you feel you need extra support can be provided, this can be extended so that you can attend weekly face to face counselling sessions to help you on your road to recovery.
Here at Pierpoint we have a range of home Detox packages on offer, allowing a safe alcohol Detox for clients wanting a platform from which to build a life free from alcohol. Your alcohol home Detox will start with a telephone assessment, followed by a visit from a Licensed Prescriber who will assess you in person, discuss your Detox with you and the person supporting you through it and will provide you with a 24 hour contact number, ensuring you have support for anything you may require. The prescriber is also available to you for follow up visits, if needed.
Also, throughout your Detox, you will receive daily calls from your Detox treatment co-ordinator to make sure everything is running smoothly and to give you support. Your alcohol home Detox will typically last 2 weeks, and you will be medicated to detox you from alcohol in a safe and controlled way. You will not be over medicated or under medicated but it will be done in such a way as to keep you as comfortable as possible at all times.
We find that once our clients have finished their home Detox, it would be beneficial to them to gain some understanding about what has kept them using alcohol, and to start to learn how to develop skills that not only stop you drinking, but to stay stopped and gain life long, emotional recovery.
This can be facilitated by arranging a follow up package of one to one counselling sessions, either by phone or face to face sessions with a counsellor in your home town.
For us, the alcohol home Detox is the first step for our clients to live an alcohol free life, to develop a recovery support network and to be free from alcohol for life.
Our home detox packages can be carried out anywhere in the UK. After an initial call to our admissions team, a home detox can usually be started within 2-3 days.
